Welcome to The Sunken Shala.
A Soul sanctuary
A bohemian basement sanctuary in downtown Boise, ID. Rooted in heart-led intention & deep rest, we offer a gentle approach and an inclusive space for mindful movement, healing, recovery & quiet strength. An invitation to a safe refuge to meet yourself with kindness.
The HEart
The Sunken Shala was born from a deep personal journey through healing, recovery and learning to listen to the body’s wisdom with deep reverence.
In Sanskrit, Shala translates to protective physical abode. The Sunken Shala exists to offer a quiet sanctuary dedicated entirely to nervous system regulation, gentle presence, and self compassion.
Our Story
Our foundation is built on the timeless wisdom of The Sutras of Patanjali . We are guided by the Yamas and Niyamas - a thread of yogic principles for compassionate living and self care. Within those principles we are deeply anchored by Ahimsa, an absolute gentleness in thought, word and movement and invite you to find your own interpretation of these principles if it aligns for your journey.
Our intention
Our classes invite you to move from another yogic principle Sankalpa: a heart-led intention rooted in quiet truth that you are already complete. Whether you step onto the mat to heal, restore, or simply slow down, this is a safe, inclusive invitation to practice quiet strength and meet yourself with kindness.
Your Story
We acknowledge that movement is a deeply personal journey and every practice has its place. Your body holds your unique story - every season you’ve survived, every quiet strength you’ve discovered and every moment of rest you’ve earned. At The Sunken Shala, our focus is holding space for every story to belong. Here, on the mat, there is no performance, no expectation, and no need to force shape. We invite you to listen deeply to the subtle wisdom of your own physical home, honoring your boundaries and honoring its truth. In this practice your body is the teacher and trusting its story is where the real healing begins. Whatever brings you down our stairs whether joy, recovery, curiosity or a need for quiet, you will be met with warmth and respect.
“Your body holds your story - this is your space to arrive.”
